UH Writing Center Graduate Writing Consultations

The Writing Center offers face-to-face, one-on-one consultations in which our trained Writing Consultants assist students with their graduate work. Our consultants, who are themselves graduates or enrolled in UH graduate studies, work with students to develop and structure their ideas and organize their thoughts by engaging them in meaningful and purposeful conversations about their writing, usually within the context of given assignments. These focused conversations help writers gain the confidence and perspectives needed to communicate effectively with their writing.

Our Writing Consultants also encourage students to engage in writing as thinking, as well as a process of revision and overall development. They DO NOT proofread, edit papers, dictate or correct course-specific content, or predict what grade an assignment might earn.

Any UH graduate student may schedule an appointment to get help with their writing. To create a graduate consultation reservation, visit the Writing Center’s website at and choose “schedule appointments” tab. After reading the “WC Online Usage Policies” open an account with WC Online by choosing “Go To WC Online Scheduler.” After registering, logon to the system at any time and choose “Graduating Writing Consultations”. Once you have selected the appropriate schedule, left-click on a bright white box for a date/time that works best with your schedule, and complete your reservation record. After completing your reservation record, please select the yellow “folder” icon at the top of the schedule to attach the assignment you will bring to the consultation. Attaching your assignment is recommended for Graduate Writing Consultations.

You can schedule a Graduate Writing Consultation from two days to two weeks in advance of your desired meeting date. Graduate Writing Consultations will be 60-minute appointments.

Summer 2015, consultations will be offered from May 5 through August 21. Availability for these meetings is usually offered for the following days and times:

To receive more effective and focused feedback from our Writing Consultants, we encourage you to bring your writing assignment instructions to your consultations.

The Writing Center is located in the Classroom and Business Building, or CBB, Bldg. 499, on the second floor. Graduate Writing consultations are conducted in Room 205 of this building. For a map of our location, please go online to view UH Map and enter “499” or “Classroom and Business Building” in the “Search Building” field.
